An
innovation in 2009, this workshop is for
instrumentalists who would like an introduction to
klezmer and Yiddish music, or who have some experience
but not yet enough to comfortably participate in the
Advanced Instrumental Workshop.
July
1-4, 2009
Introduction & Intermediate Klezmer & Yiddish Music
Taught by
Yiddish Summer Weimar veterans Georg Brinkmann (clarinet),
Franka Lampe (accordion), Fabian Schnedler (voice, dance),
and Annette Siebert (violin), both the repertoire and
the teaching approach prepare the student for more
advanced work in the future. Instruction will include
written music as well as learning and playing by ear,
and will connect klezmer (instrumental) repertoire to
Yiddish dance and singing. Participants should have at
least an intermediate level of technique on their
instrument, the ability to read music, preferably some
experience learning by ear, and an openness to new ways
of learning. The language of instruction will be
primarily German.
