In 2009 we
welcome back many old friends to deepen our exploration
of Moldavian Yiddish and Roma song. The unique Arkady
Gendler, from Soroka, Moldova, brings a long and rich
lifetime of experience in traditional, popular, and his
own original Yiddish songs. The most outstanding
European Yiddish singer/songwriter of his generation,
Efim Chorny, will join us, as well as the wonderful
pianist and coach Susan Gerghus, both from Chisinau.

Advanced Yiddish
Song Workshop
The great
singer/violinist/guitarist Tcha Limberger returns to
teach Roma song repertoire and style. Singers will be
delighted to learn that singer/vocal coach Tom Burke
(New York), who astonished us all in Winter Edition,
will join us again for this workshop, and we are very
pleased that Roswitha Dasch (Wuppertal) and Katharina
Müther (Freiburg) will be artists-in-residence. And Alan
Bern (Berlin) will do his best to see that these parts
somehow all fit together...
This
workshop is for advanced and professional singers with
experience singing in Yiddish and ability to read music
and learn by ear, and just as much to advanced
instrumentalists who enjoy the great challenges of vocal
accompaniment and everything there is to be learned from
the voice.
